El Nido
If you are coming by boat from Port Barton or Sabang, you are in for a real treat. The Coastline leading up to El Nido is fantastic. The limestone islands rise out of the water all around. Very exotic and photo-worthy. The bangka will round the last limestone headland and there will be El Nido. The setting is fantastic – rugged limestone outcrops crowned with dense jungle foliage form the backdrop
Accommodation
Lagen Island Resort is located in Bacuit Bay inside a marine sanctuary, next to the quiet little town of El Nido. Part of the El Nido Island chain, this northern Palawan area is known for great scuba diving, snorkeling and other watersports. The crystal clear waters, hidden lagoon, dramatic limestone cliffs and abundant marine life makes it a magical place.
Lagen Island Resort has Water Cottages (18) built on stilts over the water, Beachfront Cottages (9), Forest Rooms (20) and Suites (4) to choose from. Each cottage and room is furnished with locally produced furniture and artifacts, and equipped with air-conditioning, mini bars, telephones and CD players. Each unit also has a private veranda with vistas over the cove, gardens or Bacuit Bay.
Dining
The resort`s restaurant has great views and two dining areas, indoor and outdoor. Enjoy sumptuous buffet meals of local seafood and a variety of Filipino, Asian and western specialties. The poolside bar offers snacks and great tropical drinks.
Activities
Lagen Island is famous for great hiking. Its lush interior shelters many types of wildlife and birds. Kayaking around the coves here is excellent, and visiting bat caves a fun experience. For other activities, try waterskiing, Hobie Cat sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling or scuba diving.
Nearby islands offer great opportunities for daytrips. Cadlao Island, the largest in the chain, is a lush tropical island with gorgeous white sandy beaches. Dilumacad Island is an ideal place for snorkeling and picnics, and has an underwater tunnel and reef for scuba divers. Entatula Island has a lovely and safe swimming beach, good for beginning swimmers. Matinloc Island is made for snorkelers and scuba divers with its secret beach accessible only by a small opening through a limestone wall. There are also four other superb dive sites around the island.
Miniloc Island is famous for its lagoons and great sea kayaking, snorkeling and swimming. There are seven dive sites around the island. Paglugaban Island has mangrove areas with hundreds of egrets and other wildlife. Pangulasian Island is good for a whole day`s trip with its splendid beaches, snorkeling and diving. The island also offers good hiking and birdwatching. Tapiutan Island is located further out of the bay facing the South China Sea and offers rich marine life and excellent scuba diving and snorkeling. Vigan Island`s sandspit creates two fabulous shallow swimming areas during low tides. On the Palawan mainland you can kayak into caves, dive or snorkel the extensive reef and visit many attractions.
Diving
El Nido has a diverse marine life with over 200 species of tropical fish and more than 100 species of corals. It is the nesting ground of three species of endangered sea turtle, the green sea turtle, hawksbill turtle and olive ridley turtle. Marine mammals such as dolphins, whales and dugongs feed here. Different types of sharks, including the world largest fish, the whale shark, has been sighted here.
With 25 great dive sites available, diving at El Nido is varied and exciting. The resort`s professional dive center offers scuba courses, rental equipment and has experienced and friendly dive instructors. Snorkeling is also fabulous, and there are many diverse snorkeling sites. |
